International nature workshop once again.

International nature workshop once again.

On October 4 and 5, 2021 we hosted again a new group of foreign volunteers from the CampoSfera foundation at our headquarters in Krzyżanowice Średnie. They were young people from all over the world, including Pakistan, Ireland, Spain, Austria and Romania. Their stay is funded by the European Commission through the European Solidarity Corps programme . It is a programme for young people and organisations who want to take part in solidarity actions, in areas ranging from helping the disadvantaged to health and environmental action to humanitarian aid across the EU and beyond. The program gives young people the opportunity to get involved and gain invaluable experience and develop new skills. Since the main theme of their presence in Poland was environmental protection and ecology, they were engaged to help with the LIFE4DELTA project.

On the first day 15 people were divided into two groups, one of which dealt with cleaning of nature reserves in the Ponidzie region – including Skowronno and the Serpentyna area – which are part of the previous project LIFE13 NATPL000038 “Protection of valuable natural habitats in Ponidzie” and which are still being monitored in the framework of the “afer-life” project. The second group collected twigs and branches from the Nida delta area which are needed for building white stork nests. After returning to the headquarters, a short rest and a meal, everyone started weaving the above-mentioned nests under the control of an employee responsible for bird sanctuary. Their efforts resulted in 4 stork nests that will be used in the construction of nesting platforms for these birds.

On the following day, due to the ongoing educational workshops of the project, some of the group undertook to conduct ecological and sports activities for the children and young people staying at the premises that day. The prepared games and outdoor activities were welcomed with great enthusiasm by the students of grades 4-8 from the school in Stępocice. Amidst a lot of laughter and good humor, there were also educational elements about the importance of recycling for nature and being green every day. Overall the mood was pleasant and the weather was great. The rest of the volunteers made a film about the Life4Delta project as seen through their eyes. The recording will be posted on the project website and social media pages and will promote the LIFE17 NATPL000018 “Renaturalisation of the inland Nida River delta” project. The film titled “Visiting the project LIFE4DELTA” will be an interesting and unprecedented form of popularization of the project and promotion of its activities.
