White Stork Day

White Stork Day

May 31 is the Day of the White Stork. The holiday was established by the Polish Society of Friends of Nature pro Natura and aims to popularize knowledge about their lives, the role they play in Polish culture and landscape, and above all, to draw attention to the need to protect this species. In Poland, the white stork (Ciconia ciconia) is strictly protected.

In the past, the white stork nested in the open areas of the inland Nida delta. In Umianowice, in the 1990s, several nests were inhabited every year. One of the activities implemented under Life is the active protection of white stork, which aims to restore meadow habitats and strengthen the population of these birds.
