Crested newts in a new environment

Crested newts in a new environment

In mid-May, we released the first group of crested newts, which had been in our breeding since last year, into the ponds dug in spring. Exactly: 20 individuals. They probably liked the new place, because they settled here quickly and – we hope – that it will stay that way.

The Umianovich newt population will be regularly monitored over the next years of the project, which will provide a lot of valuable information about its functioning.

The photos show the release of great newts into the natural environment
