Life is returning to the Nida Delta. Thanks to naturalists, fish have settled in, pond turtles will soon appear

Pond turtles in Ponidzie could still be found in the 1990s. Unfortunately, through human activity, both turtles and other endangered species have become extinct. Now they are making a comeback through a program implemented by naturalists from the Complex of Swietokrzyskie and Nadnidziańskie Landscape Parks. The results of their work are astounding. In a few months, 14 species of fish have already established themselves in the restored oxbow lakes.

Today the place is teeming with life. And this is because the Smuga Umianowicka has been filled with water. – Here we are primarily restoring the natural hydrological regime of the area, which has been disturbed by improperly executed drainage works,” explains Wojciech Soltysiak of the Complex of Świętokrzyskie and Nadnidziańskie Landscape Parks.
