Naturalists recreate inland delta of Nida

Świętokrzyskie and Nida Landscape Parks Group realize the “Renaturation of the inland delta of Nida” project that has been receiving the endowment from the LIFE Program from the European Commission since 2019. The main premise is restoring the unique natural advantages of the Nida’s delta that as a result of the incorrectly conducted reclamation works in the 80s and 90s of the last century that were severely violated. – The most important operation that we managed to realize is improving the hydrological conditions of the inland delta of the Nida river. The works included decongestion of the watercoruses, revitalization of the backwaters and also the revitalization of the oxbow lakes. In total we decongested 12 km of watercourses, renewed 19 facilities of hydrotechnical infrastructure. We managed to conduct the revitalization of backwaters with an area of 10 hectares, and also the revitalization of oxbow lakes with a length of  5 kilometers– said the project’s director, Piotr Wilk.
