The first storks have returned to Ponidzie.

Na Ponidziu pojawiły się pierwsze bociany

We can see them, among others, in Szczerbakowo, in the municipality of Wiślica. The nest of these birds for about 20 years has been located on a power pole, opposite Marian Grzywa’s house.

The first stork flew here on March 17. Two days later, the second flew in.

– Last year they also showed up at a similar time,” assures Mr. Marian, adding that immediately after arriving they set about rebuilding the nest.

The resident points out that he always keeps a close eye on bird life.

– I always look in the spring to see if they have already arrived. Usually two or three chicks appear in the nest. They also arouse curiosity among drivers passing along this road, who stop to take photos. The sight of a stork is always gratifying,” he says.

Marcin Słoma of the Świętokrzyskie and Nadnidziański Landscape Parks reports that storks are gradually returning from their wintering grounds. However, the culmination of their arrivals will be in the first half of April.

– Storks glide and need warm air currents to facilitate their journey. Such currents are generated on well-heated ground. It’s still too early, the sun is not yet operating so strongly for the birds to move long distances,” he explains.

In turn, in the second half of April, the first eggs will appear in the nests. Typically, there are four of them. Once the eggs are laid, nesting begins, which lasts about 60 days.

Young storks will be seen in early summer.
