Umianowice storks are ready for migration

CONGREGATIONS OF STORKS – are held every year at the end of August, with the older individuals deciding where to meet. It has been observed that the same areas have been chosen for decades, safe for the birds themselves, as well as abundant in food, to ensure that they are “refueled” before the journey ahead.

Less experienced storks can “listen to the elders” during such congregations and “discuss” what awaits them before the long flight, this will increase their chances of survival. Despite this, it is estimated that about 30 percent of young storks do not survive their first trip to “warm countries.”
