23 May WORLD TURTLE DAY
Turtles have been celebrating their holiday on May 23 since 2000. The order of turtles is divided into 2 suborders, 14 families and includes 356 species. In our country, only the European pond turtle occurs in the wild
As part of the life4delta project, on December 18, 2024, 50 representatives of the species from the Polesie National Parkcame to the Nature Education Center in Umianowice . Currently, the turtles live in special tanks, where they mainly eat and grow. The record holders already weigh 60g.
What can we wish for our little ones? According to literature, a pond turtle can live to be over 100 years old, so we wish them:
– so that they can enjoy seeing Ponidzie in the next century,
– for their family to be larger,
– so that they do not have troublesome neighbors classified as invasive species (Red-eared slider and Cumberland slider),
– so that in 100 years they will meet many true wildlife lovers.
