The Scientific Research Camp on the Nida river.

The Scientific Camp of the Section on Renaturalization of Rivers and River Valleys was held on October 20-22, 2022. The research object was the Nida River in the area of the village of Stawy, below the so-called baths. The camp was attended by 8 students and 2 research supervisors of the University of Agriculture in Cracow (Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Geodesy). During in-situ measurements, 3 survey techniques were used: 1 – GPS RTK surveying, 2 – measurements using the ADCP floating acoustic probe, and measurements using aerial photo-registration.

The techniques used made it possible to determine the shape of the river bottom, the velocity of the water flow and the flow, the drop in the water table, the shape of the banks and a section of the floodplain. In addition, photos were taken to show the condition of the riverbed and the degree of vegetation. The purpose of the conducted camp is to study the current configuration of the bed of the Nida River at the end of the growing season and to determine the parameters of water flow in the Nida. Based on the bottom model, a numerical model will be made to describe the effect of hydraulic parameters of water flow on existing hydromorphological and biological conditions in a riverbed with a sandy bottom.

The results of the measurements and analysis will be presented at the UR Scientific Circles Session in spring 2023.
