LIFE4DELTA team business trip to Belgium, France and Luxembourg – Networking with other projects.

A LIFE4Delta_PL team service trip to Belgium, France and Luxembourg took place from 14 to 18 June 2023. The main objectives of the trip were to share experiences and verify the effectiveness of the activities undertaken so far by the LIFE4Delta team.

1.Belgium – LIFE Delta Project.

The first destination of the trip was a twin LIFE Delta project in the inland delta of the Demer River in Belgium. The trip provided an excellent opportunity to compare applied methods in hydrology, species reintroduction and avifauna restoration in renaturalized wetland habitats. It was also a contribution to observing technical solutions for tourist paths that can be successfully implemented in the Nida delta area.

  1. France – LIFE+ project Rale des gentes.

Together with LIFE Delta project staff, volunteers and representatives from the Belgian Ministry of the Environment, we visited the LIFE+ Rale des gentes project area in the Meuse Valley on 16 June. The area is located in northeastern France, near the village of Stenay, and includes the most natural and still meandering section of the river. During the visit, we assessed the quality of grassland habitats a few years after the project’s completion, and carried out location sampling of birds associated with open grasslands and wetlands.

  1. Luxembourg – LIFE Unio project.

On June 17, we visited the historic mill in Kalborn, where experimental breeding of the rough-shelled scurvy is carried out. Benefiting from many years of experience in the breeding and reintroduction process of this species, we have been able to revise our previous working methods which will result in a change in methodology
