Spring pheasant’s eye – sun on the ground and symbol of Ponidzie

Spring pheasant’s eye – sun on the ground and symbol of Ponidzie

Calendar spring begins on March 21 and lasts until June 21 – a period determined by the calendar. However, vegetation starts earlier on the xerothermic grasslands covering much of the area around Pińczów, Busk, Wiślica. Plants specific to the area use water from melting snow and rain. It only takes a dozen sunny days for the hills surrounding Pinczow to turn golden from the spring pheasant’s eye. Spring pheasant’s eye flowers appear earlier than green grass.

For many years, the beautiful yellow flowers about 7 centimeters in diameter were even expected by residents. The little golden suns were a symbol like melting Marzanna saying that the bad winter is finally gone.

After the Acanthus-leaved Carline-thistle, Spring pheasant’s eye is the plant most associated with Ponidzie. With its beauty, it charms more than just the region’s inhabitants. We would like to remind you that spring pheasant’s eye is a protected species, so we cannot pick it and take it home. They are extremely long-lived plants and can grow on one site for up to several decades.

We encourage lovers of the native nature to visit, admire and take beautiful pictures of our flora and fauna.
