05 Jun We are establishing a nursery!
Last week we established a tree and bushes nursery in the quarters made available by the Pińczów Forest District in Michałowo. Preparation of the quarters consisted of: spreading a special fertilizer and tillage with a tiller in order to loosen the soil. After that, the fabric with a standard width of 1.6 m x 50 m was spread out. After fixing the fabric with pins and covering its edges with soil, we proceeded to plant the previously prepared plant cuttings. Immediately before planting, the seedlings have been treated with a rooting hormone for easier taking of roots and protection against fungal diseases.
The following species were planted on the above mentioned plantation: white poplar (Populus alba), black poplar (Populus nigra), bird cherry (Prunus padus), wild currant (Ribes spicatum), black currant (Ribes nigrum), guelder rose (Viburnum opulus) and spindle (Euonymus europaeus). We planted them in rows every 25 cm and with a spacing in a row of 15 to 20 cm depending on the growth intensity of the given cuttings. Two sprinklers have been installed to avoid drying the plants.
We plan to have the plantation ready to be replanted after about 1.5 years. All the growing plantings will be used to increase the area of riparian forests in the area of Umianowice and the “Młodzawy” forest complex.
