Introducing xerothermic species

Introducing xerothermic species

At the end of October, plant species under strict protection – Lotus Germanicus, Dorycnium germanicum, Klasea lycopifolia, Serratula lycopifolia and golden flax Linum flavum – were introduced in the xerothermic grassland habitat as part of the project’s active measures. Seed material was collected from an existing seed plantation located near the Nature Education Center (Lotus germanicus and Klasea lycopifolia) and taken from a local, abundant source population from the Ponidzie area (golden flax).

The seeds of golden flax and klasea lycopifolia were sown directly into the ground, while in the case of lotus germanicus they were sown in early spring into trays, which were then placed in an unheated greenhouse, where they were regularly watered throughout the growing season. Of the nearly 40 seedlings of this species obtained, 35 were planted.

It is hoped that next spring new specimens will germinate from seed, and the plantings will root well and grow.
