They will build stork platforms in Ponidzie

The complex of Świętokrzyskie and Nadnidziańskie Landscape Parks plans to install special platforms near Umianowice, on which storks will be able to build their nests. Marcin Słoma from the park complex informs that the project aims primarily at the reconstruction of meadow habitats, and at the same time strengthening the population of these birds.

– The places where the platforms will be built have already been selected. These include power poles – says Marcin Słoma.

The platforms are meant to protect storks from electrocution and prevent grid failures that careless birds can cause. In total, ten such places are to be built this year. White-tailed eagles also benefited from the project. In the vicinity of Młodzawy, a special platform was built where these predatory birds can nest. Marcin Słoma says that the existing nest near Umianowice was also repaired.

– A reinforcement has been made underneath it. It was very built up and it became quite heavy. As a result, the nest tilted and could fall in a larger windstorm – explains Marcin Słoma.

Poland is the country with the most storks in the world. As many as 40,000 pairs of these birds nest here.
